Lost at Sea: Art Recovered from Shipwrecks

The centerpiece of this exhibition was a vitrine displaying a slowly disintegrating concretion of objects recovered from a trading vessel that sank in the 15th century off the coast of Vietnam. To engage visitors in the complex story behind this mysterious-looking object, I surrounded the vitrine with labels on all sides that incorporated vibrant headers, explanatory text, graphics, and photographs.
